The post office announced it will be closing half of its service centers around the country. This affects first class mail delivery schedules. what used to be 1-3 days to deliver will now take 2-4 days.
While there is mention of people paying bills and sending greeting cards, there are quite a few businesses that will have to readjust how they do business.
Netflix was mentioned as a major business impacted. This comes at a VERY bad time for Netflix who has lost a lot of subscribers (and profits) due to price changes and loss of quality content (via STARz).
Magazine publishers will have to adjust deadlines for content and advertising. This is because “third class” or media type mailings take a back seat to first class mail. The trickle down effect is that ALL mail will now be SLOWER.
With email and downloads etc., is the Postal Mail irrelevant in our day and age?
